Lego Technic 42078 Mack Anthem motorized & Christmas special

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas with this video and thank you for your support!

The Lego Technic 42078 Mack Anthem received additional rc functions with the lights and the motorized trailer, controlled by 2 SBricks. The light sequences of the container are also controlled by one of the SBricks. The trailer has 2 Power Functions L motors built in. Also tested with M motors but they could not handle the load. Please note that this is a test RC mod, so there won’t be any instructions for the time being. I’m planning to do a proper rc conversion and I’ll share that one in details.

The upgraded container interior is based on the following alternate build of 40223:

This is my first proof of concept RC mod of the 42078 Mack Anthem truck with Power Functions Servo motor and L motor, controlled via SBrick. I’ve also posted some updates and correction of my review published yesterday. I was informed via the comments how to properly operate the crane so I did a test again and apparently the whole structure is much more stable when the trailer is connected to the truck. As you can see I’m not an experienced crane operator or truck driver but I’m learning quickly 🙂

Lego Technic 42078 Mack Anthem unboxing, review & speed build

This is the second set form my lucky early bird Lego purchase. Let’s start with the unboxing, review & speed build video:

The Mack Anthem is the result of a new partnership between Lego and Mack Trucks Inc. The Anthem is the newest highway truck from Mack, introduced only a couple of months ago. The B model is a Mack LR garbage truck – instructions will be available later online.

Lego Technic 42078 Mack Anthem proportions

Last week we received the pictures for the complete Lego Technic lineup for first half of 2018. I have to say I really like the 42078 Mack Anthem truck, it’s got plenty of details, tons of pieces for a fair price and a B model that could easily be an A model on it’s own. I read a lot of complaints (as usual),  and one of them is about the proportions of the truck. I made a quick comparison with the real thing:

Please note that the perspective of the 2 photos is different and it is a very quick and dirty alignment. What I can see from this:

  • on the Lego version the nose is longer and the curve of the bonnet is not that significant
  • the rear wheels are 1-2 studs too close to the front

It is very important too see that this is not a scale model but a Lego Technic interpretation of the Mack Anthem truck, with all the limitations of the system and the available pieces. I think the designers did a very good job, and as always – it’s Lego, you can build it just the way you want 🙂
